A Man Is Not Dead Until He Is Forgotten

WHAT I CAN DO - I WILL -

News and Updates

October 2007. This website began a major facelift in August; it is now complete. I am fond of the new look and layout, although I may still tweak some pages here and there. During the same time frame, I also created a website for Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 278. It too is a work in progress, but the good news is that now the chapter has an official website. I am glad I could help out!

What's In A Name?

People have expressed curiosity as to the choice of my domain name. I wanted something catchy yet appropriate, and began looking at song titles for inspiration. There is a U2 song entitled Stay (Faraway, So Close), which, in terms of lyrics, relates to this site in no way. However, the Faraway, So Close bit caught my eye, and summed up the POW/MIA issue perfectly: our men and women are far away, yet they are always close. The title of this site comes from an Emily Dickinson poem, which goes as follows: What I can do - I will - \ Though it be little as a Daffodil - \ That I cannot - must be \ Unknown to possibility -. This poem also perfectly sums up the POW/MIA issue and how I feel about it, that I will do everything I can to keep the issue in the fore front and the memories of the missing alive, because not doing so is unfathomable, rather, unknown to possibility.

The Making of this Site

This website was first created using a 68K Macintosh, OS 8, and is now maintained on an iMac, OS X. This site is also checked on a Compaq, Windows XP. I test the site in the latest versions of IE, Netscape, Opera, Mozilla, Safari, and FireFox. The site resided at GeoCities until GeoCities was devoured by Yahoo; it is now hosted by Doteasy.com. The site was originally hand-coded; I now use Dreamweaver. Text graphics were made in Photoshop; other graphics created with a combination of Photoshop, Picture It! Publishing, and/or Paint Shop Pro 7.

Copyright Information

All images were created, scanned, and/or edited by me, excepting the (1) webrings and award graphics, (2) POWMIAFF related images, and (3) the military graphics (ribbons, insignia, medals), which are © their respective owners. All photographs, save those of my adoptees, are © me.

I have attempted to ensure that proper credit is given where due, including all sources for my adoptees' biographical incident of loss, and opinions in the patriotism section. Information and graphics that are not mine have their proper credit given at the bottom of the page on which said info/graphics are found.

Privacy Policy

Personal information from visitors is gathered only when the guest book is signed, or an e-mail is sent (either directly or through the feedback form). This information is not shared with third parties (although the guest book entries are publicly accessible!) and will not be used or abused in any way by myself. I promise not to spam your mailbox or add you to any mailing list, unless you specifically ask to be alerted to updates to this site. I do reply to e-mail messages and feedback form submissions, although often times I am slow in responding.

In compliance with COPPA, I do not knowingly collect or maintain data from children under the age of 13 years old. Information collected by Site Meter is not enough to identify an individual person, and said data is used only to learn the viewing trends of visitors to ensure that this site is viewable and accessible to as many visitors as possible. Should you have any questions regarding my privacy policy, feel free to send me an e-mail.

Site Ratings

This site is rated/registered with SafeSurf, FamilyFriendlySites, and ICRA. I gave this site a SafeSurf rating of "older children" (ages 7 and up) because I am not sure if younger children can understand what this site is about, and I don't want to risk anything on here (namely the incident of loss bios) to disturb them. However, I have done my best to ensure that there are no violent images or reading on here, so as this can be a good, safe learning places to which persons of all ages may come.
